There are essentially three categories of protection solutions to power problems- 1)>One-on-One 2)>Clustered 3)>Facility-wide Each type is appropriate for some network configurations and wrong for others. Large networks may need a combination of solutions, depending on factors such as load size, criticality of applications, proximity of equipment being protected, and the nature of the power disturbances. One-on-One Typically used in all office environment where each network node or individual PC gets its own dedicated power protection. Clustered Protection A network cluster-several servers, workstations or other network nodes located in close proximity-can be protected with a single, larger UPS. This critical equipment may also require enclosure systems that deal with problems such as heat, dust and system security. Facility-Wide Protection A large-scale operation housing numerous pieces of computing, telecommunications and peripheral equipment-the best solution is often a large-scale UPS that provides power to the entire floor or facility. Four (4) Choices of Power Protection Surge Suppression Protection From High Voltage Spikes & Surges. Surge suppressors are designed to protect sensitive equipment from one type of power disturbance: sudden power spikes that can fry microprocessor circuitry. While all surge suppressors stop the big jolts, better suppressors clamp down on subtle jumps that still corrupt data or damage equipment. Surge suppressors provide cost-effective protection for stand-alone printers, modems and other non-critical equipment. Large UPS and Power Conditioning for Data Center & Facilities: Three-Phase On-Line Power Protection for Data Centers, Facilities, and High Availability Applications to protect clusters of equipment or entire facilities, from mainframes to telecommunication applications to the fluctuating power needs of industrial sites. Including Power Distribution and Transfer Switches. Network & Server UPS: True on-line Single-Phase protection for network servers, bridges, hubs, routers, storage devices and critical workstations. The UPS may require extended battery time to provide adequate ride-through of shorter outages, as well as enough time for a graceful shutdown of the system in the event of an extended loss of utility power. Enclosure Systems Self-contained protection enclosures for computers and test equipment, with available built-in UPS and air conditioning.
